Mental health is a cause I’m incredibly passionate about, particularly in children.
84 men take their lives each week in the UK. It’s the single biggest killer in men under the age of 35. Men are statistically less likely to talk than women and three times more men take their lives compared to women.
These little figures are designed in a way that works for children of all ages. This could be a man in distress, suffering emotionally and a mental health doctor ... or it could simply be a poorly patient and a doctor; IT’S VITAL that we teach our young children (boys in particular) to become MEN/ADULTS WHO TALK.
Way to Play;
Role play with your child, perhaps the patient’s heart is hurting, perhaps he is worried about something, maybe the patient is just feeling really, really sad and isn’t sure why?
What could the doctor say to make him feel better? He might say;
* it’s OK to be sad
* what makes you happy?
* maybe lots of cuddles and a big cry to let it out might help!
Role playing with toys and engaging children in play is a fantastic way to really get them to open up! Play is how most childrens’ counsellors encourage children to open up and talk.
